Prayers in Common Use in Aotearoa New Zealand – Ko Ngā Karakia o Ia Rā
We can always speak to God in our own words, yet the Christian community also shares prayers that bring us together. Although these prayers may have different versions, sharing the same wording can help us pray as one. This booklet offers a suitable translation for that purpose.
As English is not the only official language of Aotearoa New Zealand, the booklet also includes Māori translations of the prayers, as well as prayers for the Māori custom of blessing a headstone. To support consistency in shared prayer, this translation is recommended for future prayer books and catechetical texts published for use in New Zealand.
The booklet contains 38 prayers, including traditional prayers such as the Apostles’ Creed and the Prayer of St Francis.
